Samba Dance Class
Samba is s a carnival street dance, a ballroom competition dance, a 1930s classic movie number, and a powerful workout for your pelvis. Samba is a Brazilian dance with African roots and a global fandom, often performed in little more than sequins and feathers, but always with a mix of attitude and abandon.

Originating in Brazil in the 19th century, samba owes its rhythm and moves to the African slave dances on the Brazilian sugarcane plantations. The traditional African circle dance with a lone central performer relied on weight shifts, rapid steps, and slides to a 2/4 percussive beat, and a fairly still upper body with arms and hands responding to the hip and leg movements. Once slavery ended, the dancers migrated to the favelas or shantytowns outside of cities, where freed slaves put together dance troupes for carnival. The performances were boisterous and uninhibited, generally frowned upon by Brazil's Portuguese upper crust. But samba proved irresistible, its popularity spilling across classes and borders, its gyrations richly colored by regional and international influences. Today, it would be impossible to imagine carnival without samba.

Fred Astaire and Delores Del Rio danced a version of samba, the carioca, in the 1933 film Flying Down to Rio. Carmen Miranda, a Brazilian dancer who samba'd her way through That Night in Rio, became synonymous with the dance worldwide. The 1939 World's Fair cemented the American love affair with samba when the music and dance was featured in the Brazilian pavilion. Today, the many iterations of samba are a mainstay of pre-Lenten carnival in Rio De Janeiro and of Latin ballroom dancing everywhere. Now it's a solo dance, a couple's dance, a street-dancing exhibition, and a hybrid, merged with rock, acrobatics, and even reggae.

If we "skip ahead" to other things that some people resort to, and we don't pay attention to the basics of health, it is physiologically impossible to be as healthy as you can be. And if you want the best odds of never getting a diagnosis of a serious condition, all of the basics of health need to be considered.

In this presentation, Grant will share insights into disordered eating, what drove him to binge, and the mental and emotional path he chose to navigate, alone, to overcome his deepest fears and inhibitions. For almost 15 years Grant has been one of the few role models consistently committed to eating all raw and all vegan, all of the time.  After a relatively easy transition, Grant found himself caught in a self-destructive cycle, using food like a drug to avoid facing aspects of his life causing pain; a failed marriage and an unfulfilling corporate career.

Live Music with HannaH's Field
The gypsy reggae duo, HannaH’s Field crafted their sound “in the fertile artistic landscape of the Pacific Northwest”. Their music’s “organic feel urges listeners to embrace the same sort of free spirit and open mindfulness championed by the counterculture of flower children”. (Trevor Dye)

HannaH’s vocals have been described as, “evoking a blend of Joan Baez and Grace Slick or a somewhat subdued Janis” Bongo Bliss is a gentle dreadlocked giant who performs skillfully with an African hand drum, a bass guitar and often sings at the same time.

The duo released a musical vegetarian cookbook called, “Music Magic Medicine”. The cookbook was written by Chef Bliss(known as Bongo Bliss on stage but Chef Bliss in the kitchen). Inside the cookbook you will find a message from the duo that reads: “The food we ingest is the medicine that heals our bodies. The music we listen to is the magic that heals our spirits. Everyone and everything carries a vibrational frequency so fuel your vessel with love, light and positivity.”

Conversation: 'Food Culture Discussion: Area Rug of Deceit' with Kyle Thomas and Frank Huarcaya
This session is and open conversation as opposed to a conversation or lecture.

We are currently in a time period where food is looked upon as just that, food. Since the early to mid 1900s food has become a shell of itself and we've become disconnected to where our food comes from, what's in our food, who has access to quality food, and what food consists of.
The Woodstock fruit Festival is not only designed for people to have fun, nourish themselves and  experience a fruit based raw food lifestyle but to connect people of different cultures and backgrounds to a lifestyle that is accessible to all. Not speaking about this disconnect would be  doing a huge disservice to the ourselves, the festival and this planet and a continuation of us sweeping things under an area rug covering the truth.

What can we each do individually to make Woodstock more than just a fruit Festival? How can we take the livity, abundance of food, abundance of joy and the passion for health and extend it outside of this festival. Entirely too many places I go and people I interact with do not experience this, especially in strategically poverty stricken and majority minority communities.

I hope for this panel to be a place to open people's minds to how a raw food fruit based lifestyle is possible and how much more sustainable it can be for all people.

Topics:

Growing our own food
Community Gardens
Eating Local and Seasonal
Foraging
Food Costs and availability
Organic Food
Lack of Quality Food in disinfranchised communities
Diversity in the health community.

Presentation 'Health Info You’ll Only Hear Here' with Don Bennett
Don Bennett has been researching health issues for almost half a century, but doing so as a researcher and not as a student (very important). And because of this, he has some very insightful info that many other health educators are not teaching. And while it's a shame than more health educators aren't teaching up-to-date information, at least YOU can avail yourself of this empowering info. And as events go, Don is very picky where he will speak, and right now, Don is exclusive to the Woodstock Fruit Festival. So this is your opportunity to hear what very few educators are teaching.

Memorial for Robert Lockhart
Join with us to remember Robert, who sadly passed away on November 29th 2019.
Robert was one of the original WFF Pioneers and Robert's contribution over the many years he attended the Festival was so much appreciated.
Robert lived an incredibly active, vibrant and full life till the very end.
Robert traveled with his wife Ree Anna, planting fruit trees and developing his little piece of paradise in the Philippines.
Robert enjoyed hiking, swimming, sprinting, walking on his hands as a morning routine, free climbing coconut trees, promoting the fruitarian lifestyle, and working in his chiropractic clinic.
Robert lived with passion and an open mind.
He was always ready to expand his horizons, learn new things, master new skills and travel to new locations. Robert was always generous with his time and knowledge with those seeking his counsel; he was an inspiration, a role model, and a hero to many.
He was a teacher and a friend.

Everyone is welcome to attend and contribute to the service.

Thank you.

Presentation 'How to Have the BEST Odds of Thriving on a Raw Vegan Diet' with Don Bennett
Since there are many versions of a raw vegan diet, with some being less healthy than others, and since there have been raw vegans who failed to thrive, we need to know why they didn't thrive so that we can. And there's no one more qualified to speak to this subject than a long term raw vegan who has counseled many raw vegans who were failing to thrive over time. The reasons are known, they're just not common knowledge. And since Don only speaks at the Woodstock Fruit Festival, this is the only event where you'll hear this important information
